About the Photographer

John Westergard is a professional photographer who has been in the art business for nearly 30 years. In 1986, John opened Direct Art Inc., an art and framing gallery in Prince George, British Columbia, which he continues to operate today. In 2014, John took ownership of Pier Street Gallery in Campbell River, British Columbia.

As a gallery owner, John specializes in limited edition canvas and paper reproductions of works by world-renowned artists, as well as original paintings by artists such as Robert Bateman, Carl Brenders and Steve Hanks. John’s galleries maintain an artistic balance between traditional framing styles and leading-edge trends such as prints on giclee and aluminum.

John has been an active member of the Professional Photographers of Canada, British Columbia Region (PPOC-BC), since 2010. Several of the images in John’s portfolio have appeared in regional, provincial and national competitions. In 2010, “Famous Winds of South Africa” received a merit at a national level. In 2013, the PPOC-BC selected “Treemendous” and “Even Tide” to represent British Columbia in the national photographers’ competition. Several of John’s photographs, including “Fire and Ice”, have been recognized by the PPOC as being among the top 10% in Canada.

John was born and raised in British Columbia and has formed deep-rooted connections to the province, its landscapes and its people. He continues to add new images and technologies to his photographic portfolio, and he enjoys giving back to the community through his art sponsorship program.

When he’s not in his galleries or behind his camera, John enjoys fishing, boating, skiing and flying small aircraft. He splits his time between Prince George and Campbell River.
